Established in 2026 following the online symposium The Surreal Body as Theatre of the Mind, co-organised by Dr Victoria Souliman (University of Sydney) and Dr Mimi Kelly (University of Melbourne), the network brings together scholars, artists, curators and researchers exploring women’s engagements with surrealism and its legacies in contemporary visual culture.

The network aims to:

  • Connect researchers, artists and curators working on the topics of women, surrealism and contemporary visual culture.

  • Encourage collaboration across art history, photography, film, performance and related fields.

  • Share news of publications, conferences, exhibitions, calls for papers and other opportunities.

  • Support future projects, including symposia, workshops, publications and international research partnerships.

  • Foster dialogue between established and early-career researchers, postgraduate students and practitioners.

Membership is free and open to anyone with a scholarly, curatorial or artistic interest in the network’s themes, regardless of affiliation, location or career stage. Members receive occasional updates on research, events, publications and opportunities for collaboration. There are no formal obligations: take part as your interests and time allow, and unsubscribe at any time.
